Australian Wine Regions - Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest wine producing region. Wine was first produced here in the early 1830's and increased to over 50 vineyards within 20 years. The Hunter Valley zone is split into the Upper Hunter and Lower Hunter regions, as indicated on the map below, shaded red and green respectively. A large proportion of the wineries are concentrated in the Lower Hunter Region around Cessnock and Pokolbin.

The wineweb database contains the location of the majority of Hunter Valley wineries, which can be searched using our winery search page. Where we know the location of the vineyard/cellar door, we have shown this with red 'pins' on the map. You can hover or click on a pin to show the winery name or use the drop down menu to select a winery and see the location. Please let us know via the email on our contact page if you think the pin is in the wrong location or if you want to add your winery's location to the map.

Use the drop-down list here to find a winery on the map ----->

The Hunter Valley wine production is roughly 60% white and 40% red, with the major varieties being Semillon, Chardonnay and Verdelho for the whites and Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds. Recently, vineyards have been experimenting with more and more different varieties.

For participating wineries, wineweb stores the latest available wines in our database, which can be searched from the wine search page. If you would like to become a participating winery, please contact us at the address on our contact page.
